In the middle of the green midlands of Tien Phuoc District (Quang Nam Province), there is a place where time seems to stand still. That is the ancient village of Loc Yen - one of the most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam, where hundreds of years old houses, gardens, trees and old lifestyles are still preserved, intact like a painting.
Standing out among them is the nearly 200-year-old house of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoan (56 years old) - known as "the house not for sale", even though someone once offered to pay a million dollars. With its unique architecture, the house is made of hundreds of cubic meters of wild jackfruit wood core, which many researchers and collectors have confirmed as one of a kind.
According to Mr. Hoan, he is the 4th generation owner of this house of more than 100 square meters. The house was built in 1850, during the time of his great-grandfather Nguyen Dinh Hoan - who held the title of Cuu Pham Ba Ho. Over nearly two centuries, the house has undergone many repairs, but its architectural values are still intact.
"The house is a priceless treasure that our ancestors worked hard to build, the soul of the family, so we must try to preserve it at all costs. Therefore, after four generations, although many rich people came to buy it, including some who offered millions of dollars, my family refused to sell it," Mr. Hoan shared.

The house was built on a plot of land with a favorable feng shui position, located halfway up a hill, leaning against the mountain, about 50m higher than other houses in the village and surrounded by a green garden all year round. |
The alley leading to the house, on one side is a hundred-year-old moss-covered stone bank, on the other side is a row of carefully trimmed tea trees. |
Mossy stone steps lead to the house. |
In front of the house lies a fish pond and a bonsai garden, while its back leans against Go Tron Mountain. |
The house features traditional “nha ruong” architecture with three main sections and two wings. It is supported by 8 massive primary jackfruit wood columns, so large it takes an adult to fully embrace one, along with sixteen secondary columns and twelve wing columns. The beams, rafters, and gables are intricately carved. The floor is made of a mixture of soil, lime, and kitchen ash, following age-old construction techniques |
Outside the house, the household items are still intact, from the table and chairs, the bed are all made of jackfruit wood, the house also preserves many valuable objects such as wooden rotating tables, beds, cabinets, etc. |
The columns and beams are adorned with intricate carvings. The beam ends are decorated with stylized motifs of knives and chrysanthemum leaves. Along the body of the beams, delicate and elaborate patterns depict pheasants, pine and deer, grapes and squirrels, antique objects, orchids, apricot blossoms, and mimosa fruits. All artistically stylized and crafted with remarkable attention to detail. |
Right in front of the porch is a small lotus pond, creating a feeling of relaxation and peace. |
In front of the house is a stone fish tank and a bonsai garden. Mr. Hoan's garden also does not follow any modern planning, but is created according to the intuition of generations of homeowners. |
Behind the house is a stone wall with many types of flowers typical of the mountains and forests. |
Coming to this ancient house, visitors can freely check-in, keep memories of the journey to find a peaceful, relaxing countryside. |
Because of its extremely unique aesthetic value, this house has been ranked as a provincial-level architectural and artistic relic by Quang Nam. |
