6 Sarus Cranes complete quarantine, set to return to Tram Chim National Park
On the morning of April 19, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province announced that 6 Sarus Cranes imported from Thailand had completed the quarantine process at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden, and were eligible to be transferred to Tram Chim National Park (Tam Nong District, Dong Thap Province) - which used to be an important land in the migration journey of this rare bird species.

Previously, on April 10, the first 6 Sarus Cranes were transferred from Thailand to Vietnam under the framework of a cooperation program between the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, the International Crane Association, the Vietnam Zoo Association, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens and Thai partners.
Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province - emphasized: "Receiving the first cranes is an important step in the effort to restore the Sarus Crane population in Tram Chim National Park. This is the beginning of a long journey, with the expectation of bringing sustainable life to this iconic bird species of the wetland."

After 10 days of care and health monitoring by a team of experts at the Zoo, all 6 individuals are stable and meet quarantine requirements for transport to Tram Chim. It is expected that in the next few days, the cranes will be brought to the conservation area at Tram Chim to continue the nurturing, breeding and gradual release into the natural environment.

Tram Chim National Park used to be one of the important habitats of the Sarus Crane – the tallest bird in the world, which is on the globally endangered list. The return of the crane to Dong Thap not only has biological significance but also contributes to raising public awareness in protecting the natural heritage of the Mekong Delta.
