After nearly 3 years of urgent construction, with the enthusiastic help of Soviet experts, on June 24, 1962, Lam Thao Super Phosphate Factory was inaugurated in Lam Thao - Phu Tho. At that time, this was the most modern and largest fertilizer factory in Southeast Asia. Since the start of construction, many leaders of the Party, State, Ministry of Industry, Soviet Ambassador to Vietnam... directly visited cadres, workers, experts... and monitored and directed the construction progress.
Notably, only 2 months after the inauguration and production, on August 19, 1962, Uncle Ho visited the Factory. That day, Uncle did not go straight to the production area but turned to visit the collective housing area of cadres and workers first. He visited each house, dining room, club...
Uncle reminded comrade Le Tu, Factory Director, who was standing next to him: "The toilet built out there is too far away!". A large number of cadres, workers and experts excitedly surrounded Uncle Ho. He bent down to take off a sandal he was wearing, placed it on the steps of the collective house and sat down to talk to everyone, asking about the living and production situation and advising everyone to promote the spirit of mastery, to try to study hard to be worthy of being "bosses", to practice thrift and actively plant many trees in the factory area.
The photo of the President wearing a brown ao ba ba, with white hair and beard sitting on the steps talking to cadres and workers, simple and affectionate among his children and grandchildren... became a traditional treasure of the Lam Thao Super Phosphate Factory.

From the perspective of materials science and chemical technology, the development of Lam Thao Superphosphate is a clear demonstration of progress in the application of science to agricultural production. The process of researching, adjusting and improving the technology of manufacturing Superphosphate, NPK-S and microbial fertilizers has marked important steps in optimizing the efficiency of using raw materials, minimizing environmental impacts and enhancing sustainability in agricultural cultivation.
Looking back over the past six decades, the advances in the production process at Lam Thao Superphosphate can be seen as the parallel development of chemical technology and environmental science. Initially, the company focused on exploiting domestic apatite ore sources to optimize the quality of superphosphate. The process of researching and applying sulfuric acid production technology has made Lam Thao Superphosphate a key unit in supplying high-quality acid sources, meeting the needs of chemical processing in agriculture and industry.
In addition to increasing chemical efficiency, Supe Lam Thao has pioneered the development of fertilizers that have better effects on cultivated land and agricultural ecosystems. Organic mineral fertilizers and microbial superphosphate have been studied to reduce soil degradation, increase nutrient content and maintain biological activity in the soil. This result not only contributes to increasing crop yields, but also helps shape the trend of sustainable agriculture, minimizing excess chemicals in the environment.
The innovation in management and product quality of Supe Lam Thao is also noteworthy. The application of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system has helped ensure stability and safety in production.
In the context of globalization and the rapid development of science and technology, the fertilizer industry in general and Supe Lam Thao in particular are facing many opportunities as well as great challenges. The increasing global food demand requires more sustainable solutions in agricultural production, which forces fertilizer manufacturers to improve technology and optimize production processes to increase fertilizer efficiency, reduce negative impacts on the environment and ensure food security. With more than six decades of operation, Supe Lam Thao has continuously researched, developed and applied advanced technologies to meet this requirement. Supe Lam Thao is one of the pioneers in researching and producing fertilizers with balanced nutritional composition, suitable for each type of crop and different soil conditions. The application of science and technology in fertilizer production not only helps to improve efficiency but also minimizes the amount of fertilizer lost to the environment, thereby reducing soil and water pollution. A typical example is the new generation of NPK-S fertilizer products, supplemented with essential trace elements, which help increase the ability of plants to absorb nutrients and limit soil degradation. In addition, microbial superphosphate products have also been researched and put into production by Supe Lam Thao, contributing to improving soil microorganisms, increasing productivity and quality of agricultural products.
An important factor in Supe Lam Thao's development strategy is the application of advanced quality management systems according to international standards. The ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system have helped optimize the production process, strictly controlling technical parameters to ensure that the quality of output products always meets the highest standards. This not only helps Supe Lam Thao maintain a solid position in the domestic market but also creates a premise for the enterprise to expand its export activities, targeting demanding markets such as Japan, Korea and Europe.
In addition to investing in production technology, Supe Lam Thao also focuses on improving scientific research capacity and cooperating with research institutes and universities at home and abroad. Research cooperation not only helps the Company update the latest scientific and technical advances but also creates conditions for developing breakthrough products, meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of the agricultural market. In recent years, Supe Lam Thao has cooperated with the Institute of Soil and Fertilizer, Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and international research organizations to implement many scientific topics related to optimizing fertilizer formulas, improving nutrient use efficiency and improving soil fertility. A notable point in Supe Lam Thao's development strategy is the application of digital transformation to management and business activities. The company has deployed a QR-Code system on product packaging to help consumers easily trace the origin and check product information, thereby improving transparency and protecting customer rights. This is an important step in the context of fake and poor quality fertilizers being a burning issue in the market.
Not stopping there, Supe Lam Thao is also researching and developing sustainable business models through expanding the distribution system, while implementing technical support programs for farmers to raise awareness about the effective use of fertilizers. Organizing seminars and demonstration models in the fields helps farmers better understand the role of fertilizers for crops, thereby applying scientific farming methods, contributing to improving the productivity and quality of agricultural products.
Faced with the challenges of climate change, Supe Lam Thao is also aiming for environmentally friendly fertilizer solutions. Researching and producing organic mineral fertilizers is one of the important steps to minimize the negative impacts of chemical fertilizers, while improving the sustainability of the soil ecosystem. The organic mineral fertilizer product lines developed by Supe Lam Thao have been tested on many crops and have shown positive results, not only helping to enhance plant growth but also improving soil structure, making the soil loose and increasing water retention capacity.
With a solid foundation built over the past six decades, Supe Lam Thao continues to affirm its position in the Vietnamese fertilizer industry and towards sustainable development goals. The combination of tradition and innovation is the key to helping the Company maintain stable development and create sustainable values for Vietnamese agriculture. The achievements are not only the result of continuous efforts in scientific research and technology application but also demonstrate Supe Lam Thao's strong commitment to accompany farmers, contributing to ensuring food security and developing a modern, sustainable agriculture.
